Buying Hikvision in the UK
Hikvision splits its range by series: the Value series covers general domestic and light-commercial work, AcuSense adds human/vehicle classification that cuts false alerts to near zero, and ColorVu holds full colour at night where identification matters. Match the series to the job before comparing individual models — a 4MP AcuSense turret typically beats an 8MP Value camera for real-world alerting.
Every camera needs its ecosystem: an NVR with the channels and PoE budget to drive it, surveillance-rated storage sized to your retention, and the brackets and boxes that make the install weatherproof. Each range above links the parts we stock; the guides cover the sizing sums.
Frequently asked questions
Is Hikvision equipment legal to buy and use in the UK?
Yes — Hikvision equipment is legal to buy, sell and use for private and commercial premises in the UK. A 2022 government direction restricted new deployments at sensitive central-government sites; that direction does not apply to homes or ordinary businesses.
What is the difference between AcuSense and ColorVu?
AcuSense is Hikvision’s human/vehicle classification — fewer false alarms and searchable events. ColorVu is a low-light optics package that keeps full-colour images at night. Some models combine both.
Do Hikvision cameras work with other NVR brands?
Via ONVIF, generally yes for basic recording — but AcuSense events, smart playback and firmware updates work fully only on Hikvision recorders.
