How to choose
- PoE or not — if you're powering IP cameras, pick a PoE model such as the UK-SW-8-100-P, UK-SW-8-1000-P, or UK-SW-16-1000-P; for linking existing powered devices (PCs, NVRs, other switches), a standard switch like the UK-SW-8-1000 is enough.
- Speed — Fast Ethernet (10/100Mbps) suits basic cameras and low-bandwidth devices; Gigabit (1000Mbps) models such as the UK-SW-4-1000 or UK-SW-16-1000 handle higher-resolution footage and busier networks with less bottlenecking.
- Port count — ranges from 5-port to 16-port; match this to how many cameras and network devices you actually need to connect, allowing spare ports for expansion.
- PoE reach — some PoE switches, like the UK-SW-8-100-P and the Hikvision DS-3E0105P-E/M(B), extend PoE range beyond the usual limit (250m and 300m respectively) — useful for cameras mounted further from the recorder.
