What this actually does
The DS-7204HUHI-K1/P is a 4-channel recorder that lets you run power and video down a single coaxial cable to compatible cameras — this is what "PoC" (Power over Coax) means. No second cable run for power, which matters most on retrofit jobs where pulling extra cabling is awkward.
It's a hybrid recorder: each of its 4 channels reads HDTVI, AHD, CVI or CVBS signals automatically, and you can add up to 8 IP cameras on top. That's useful if you're mixing old analogue cameras with newer IP ones, or upgrading a site gradually rather than all at once.
Before you buy, check
- Storage: fits one SATA hard drive, up to 10TB. It's sold as a bare unit — you supply the drive.
- PoC cameras: your cameras need to support PoC to use the power-over-cable feature; ordinary HDTVI cameras will still work but need their own power.
- Resolution: records up to 8MP, though 5MP tops out at 12fps — check that suits your camera choice before relying on higher frame rates.
