What it actually does
The Hikvision DS-7332HQHI-K4 is a 32-channel recorder that takes both old-style coax cameras (HDTVI, AHD, CVI, CVBS) and IP cameras on the same box — so an existing analogue install can grow into IP without ripping out cable runs. In hybrid mode it supports up to 48 IP camera channels, with IP cameras up to 6MP.
It records using H.265 Pro+ compression, which is a more efficient way of squeezing video onto a disk than older codecs — meaning less storage used for the same footage, useful once you're running 32 channels around the clock. Encoding tops out at 1080p @ 15fps.
Storage — check this before buying
This is a 1.5U chassis with 4 SATA bays plus one eSATA port, each drive supporting up to 10TB, giving a maximum of 40TB internal storage. Bigger drives mean longer retention before old footage is overwritten — decide how many days of recording you need first, then size the drives accordingly.
