5MP Kits: your questions answered
How many days of footage do kits in this range keep?
It comes down to three things: the size of the drive, how many cameras are recording and their resolution. As a rough guide, if just one camera is recording non-stop, every terabyte gives you around 46 days of 5MP footage or around 23 days of 4K footage. On a typical kit here, it's about 57 days. Each kit's card shows its own estimate — and if you only record when something moves, footage lasts longer.
Channels and cameras — what's the difference?
Think of channels as how many cameras the recorder will take, and cameras as the number you actually get. The recorders here have between 4 and 32 channels. With spare channels, you can add cameras later and keep the same recorder.
What's in the box?
A DVR plus matching cameras, checked to work together. Every kit here comes with a hard drive. Every part, with its model number, is listed on each kit's own page.
How much do kits in this range cost?
Prices for the in-stock kits here go from £165.92 to £4,580.52 including VAT. The figure on each card is what that kit costs.
5MP CCTV kits: complete systems in one box
A 5MP kit pairs a recorder (DVR) with a matched set of 5-megapixel cameras, so channel count, camera count and hard drive size are already specified together — no separate compatibility checking needed. This range runs from 4-channel to 16-channel systems, with turret and bullet cameras, and drive capacities from 6TB to 10TB.
How to choose
- Channel count — match to the number of cameras you actually need now; a 16-channel recorder with 8 cameras leaves room to add more later.
- Camera style — turret cameras are compact and dome-shaped; bullet cameras are cylindrical and often favoured for a visible, longer-range look. Some kits mix both.
- Night vision type — standard IR turrets give monochrome night footage, while PIR-equipped models (marked PIRXO) add passive infrared motion sensing for smarter alerts.
- Storage size — larger drives (8TB, 10TB) hold more recorded footage before older clips are overwritten, useful with more cameras or longer retention needs.
- Recorder model — kits use specific Hikvision recorder models (e.g. IDS-7208HQHI, IDS-7208HUHI-M1/E), which determine channel capacity and camera compatibility within that kit.
Check the exact camera mix and recorder model on each kit before buying, since these vary between otherwise similar-sized kits.
5MP Kits — frequently asked questions
How many cameras can a 5MP kit support?
It depends on the kit's channel count, which ranges in this range from 4-channel up to 16-channel recorders, each supplied with a matched number of cameras.
What does PIRXO mean on some camera models?
It indicates the camera has a built-in passive infrared (PIR) sensor for motion detection, in addition to standard image capture, as seen on models like the DS-2CE72KF3T-PIRXO.
What's the difference between turret and bullet cameras in these kits?
Turret cameras are small dome-shaped units, while bullet cameras are cylindrical; both styles appear across this range, and some kits combine the two.
