5 Camera Kits: your questions answered
How many days of footage do kits in this range keep?
It comes down to three things: the size of the drive, how many cameras are recording and their resolution. As a rough guide, if 5 cameras are recording non-stop, every terabyte gives you around 18 days of 2MP footage or around 4 days of 4K footage. On a typical kit here, it's about 55 days. Each kit's card shows its own estimate — and if you only record when something moves, footage lasts longer.
Channels and cameras — what's the difference?
Think of channels as how many cameras the recorder will take, and cameras as the number you actually get. Every recorder here can take at least 3 extra cameras. With spare channels, you can add cameras later and keep the same recorder.
What's in the box?
A recorder (an NVR on IP kits or a DVR on Turbo HD ones) plus matching cameras, checked to work together. Every kit here comes with a hard drive. Every part, with its model number, is listed on each kit's own page.
How much do kits in this range cost?
Prices for the in-stock kits here go from £593.08 to £1,727.94 including VAT. The figure on each card is what that kit costs.
5 Camera Kits: what's in this range
A 5 camera kit gives you enough coverage for most house exteriors — front, back, sides and a driveway or gate — from one matched system rather than piecing cameras together yourself.
Kits in this range pair Hikvision, Dahua and Prolux cameras with a recorder (DVR/XVR/NVR) and a hard drive already specified, so the resolution, channel count and storage are fixed as a set rather than sold separately.
How to choose
- Resolution: most kits here use 5MP turret or bullet cameras; a couple step up to 4K (8MP-class) for sharper detail on number plates or faces at distance.
- Camera shape: turret and bullet styles both appear — turrets sit flush and discreet, bullets are more visible as a deterrent.
- Channel count: recorders are 8-channel or 16-channel; buy one extra channel or two beyond your camera count if you might add a camera later.
- Storage: recording capacity ranges from 2TB up to 8TB in this range — more storage means more days of footage held before it's overwritten.
- Mixed setups: some kits combine a PTZ (pan-tilt-zoom) camera with fixed cameras, useful if one spot needs active tracking.
Check the recorder model matches the camera type (Hikvision/Dahua/Prolux hardware isn't always interchangeable) before buying spares later.
5 Camera Kits — frequently asked questions
How much hard drive storage do I need in a 5 camera kit?
It depends on how long you want to keep footage; kits in this range come with anywhere from 2TB to 8TB pre-fitted, with larger drives holding more days of recording before older footage is overwritten.
What's the difference between turret and bullet cameras in these kits?
Turret cameras are compact and dome-shaped, sitting fairly discreetly against a wall or ceiling, while bullet cameras are the longer cylindrical style that's more visibly a camera — some kits in this range mix both.
