A 2MP kit gives you a recorder plus matching cameras and a hard drive, so you are not left guessing whether parts will work together. "2MP" means each camera records at roughly 1080p resolution — clear enough to identify faces and number plates at sensible distances, without the storage demands of higher-resolution systems.
This range includes both DVR kits (cameras connect by coaxial cable) and NVR kits (cameras connect over network cable, often with PoE — power and data on one cable). Channel counts run from 4 to 16, so kits scale from a small home with a few cameras to a site needing wider coverage.
How to choose
- DVR or NVR — check which camera type is included; DVR kits use analogue-style cameras, NVR kits use network (IP) cameras, and the two are not interchangeable.
- Channel count — match the number of channels to the number of cameras you actually plan to run, with room to add more later.
- Storage capacity — kits come with a pre-fitted hard drive (commonly 4TB or 6TB here); more cameras and higher activity use up storage faster.
- Camera type — some kits include varifocal or PTZ (pan-tilt-zoom) cameras rather than fixed lenses, which suits areas needing a wider or adjustable field of view.
