8 Camera Kits: your questions answered
How many days of footage do kits in this range keep?
It comes down to three things: the size of the drive, how many cameras are recording and their resolution. As a rough guide, if 8 cameras are recording non-stop, every terabyte gives you around 11 days of 2MP footage or around 2 days of 4K footage. On a typical kit here, it's about 57 days. Each kit's card shows its own estimate — and if you only record when something moves, footage lasts longer.
Channels and cameras — what's the difference?
Think of channels as how many cameras the recorder will take, and cameras as the number you actually get. On the smallest recorders here every channel's in use, while the biggest can take 24 more cameras. With spare channels, you can add cameras later and keep the same recorder.
What's in the box?
A recorder (an NVR on IP kits or a DVR on Turbo HD ones) plus matching cameras, checked to work together. Every kit here comes with a hard drive. Every part, with its model number, is listed on each kit's own page.
How much do kits in this range cost?
Prices for the in-stock kits here go from £723.11 to £3,161.45 including VAT. The figure on each card is what that kit costs.
8 Camera Kits: complete systems for larger homes and small business sites
An 8 camera kit covers a full perimeter or multi-room layout in one go, pairing eight cameras with a single recorder and hard drive so you don't buy pieces separately.
This range spans both NVR (network video recorder, for IP cameras over cabled Ethernet or PoE) and DVR (digital video recorder, for analogue-style cameras over coax) systems, with camera resolutions from 2MP up to 4MP and cameras from Hikvision alongside recorders branded HiLook, Hikvision, and Prolux.
How to choose
- Recorder type: NVR kits here use PoE (Power over Ethernet, so one cable carries power and video) to simplify cabling; DVR kits use coax and a separate power run.
- Camera resolution: 2MP models (e.g. DS-2AE5225TI-A-E, DS-2AE4225T-A, DS-2DE5232IW-AE-S6) suit general coverage; 4MP models (DS-2DE4A425IW-DE) give sharper detail for identifying faces or plates.
- Storage capacity: hard drives in this range run from 2TB up to 14TB — more footage history means less overwriting, useful if you review recordings infrequently.
- Channel count headroom: some kits ship on a 16- or 32-channel recorder even with 8 cameras fitted, leaving room to add more cameras later.
Check your chosen recorder's channel count and cabling type match your site before ordering.
8 Camera Kits — frequently asked questions
What's the difference between an NVR kit and a DVR kit in this range?
NVR kits use PoE Ethernet cabling to carry both power and video to IP cameras, while DVR kits use coax cabling with a separate power run to analogue-style cameras.
How much storage do I need?
This range includes hard drives from 2TB up to 14TB; a larger drive holds more recording history before older footage is overwritten, which suits sites reviewed less often.
