CAT6 cable for CCTV and network runs
CAT6 is the current standard Ethernet cable, built to carry Gigabit network speeds and, on PoE (Power over Ethernet) cameras, both data and power down one lead. This range covers patch leads from 2m to 25m, plus bulk reels of solid copper cable at 100m and 305m for longer, permanent runs.
How to choose
- Patch lead or bulk reel? Short runs to a router, PC, PS4 or single camera suit a ready-made patch lead (2m–25m). Wiring several cameras back to a recorder, or running cable through walls and lofts, calls for a 100m or 305m reel you terminate yourself.
- Indoors or outdoors? UKVISION's outdoor cable uses a PE (polyethylene) jacket rated for external use; the indoor UTP reels are for inside runs only.
- Conductor type matters for CCTV. Solid copper (0.52mm) carries PoE power more reliably over distance than CCA (copper-clad aluminium), which is lighter but has higher resistance.
- Length and colour. Patch leads come in black or white and various lengths; pick a length with a little slack rather than pulling a cable taut.
All cables in this range are rated for Gigabit ("1Gbps") speeds, suitable for HD and multi-camera CCTV systems as well as general networking.
CAT6 — frequently asked questions
What's the difference between a patch lead and a cable reel?
A patch lead is a ready-made cable with connectors already fitted, sized for a single short run. A reel is bulk cable you cut to length and terminate yourself for longer or multiple runs.
Can CAT6 cable power a CCTV camera as well as carry data?
Yes, if the camera and recorder support PoE (Power over Ethernet), which sends power and data down the same CAT6 cable. Solid copper cable handles this more reliably than CCA over distance.
