Hikvision DS-2CD1383G2-LIU — 8MP turret camera with colour night vision

This is an 8MP fixed-lens turret camera that records in colour after dark, not just black-and-white infrared. It suits front doors, driveways, shop entrances and small perimeters where you want enough detail to identify a face or number plate, not just spot movement.

What it does in practice:

• The 1/2.7" sensor at 3840 × 2160 (8MP) gives sharper detail than a typical 2MP or 4MP camera in the same spot — handy if you need to zoom into recorded footage later.
• The 2.8mm lens gives a 113° horizontal view, so one camera can cover a wide entrance or yard rather than a narrow tunnel of view.
• Smart Hybrid Light switches between infrared and white light automatically depending on conditions, with illumination reaching up to 30 metres — this is what gives you colour footage at night instead of grey infrared.
• A built-in microphone records audio alongside video, useful for evidencing incidents.
• Human and vehicle detection filters out cats, foliage and passing headlights, so motion alerts and recordings focus on what matters.
• Runs over PoE (802.3af) or 12V DC, so one Ethernet cable can carry both power and video — check your NVR or switch supports PoE before assuming no separate power adapter is needed.
• Rated IP67, so it's built for outdoor mounting as well as indoor use.
• Works with Hikvision NVRs and ONVIF-compatible systems — worth confirming your existing recorder supports ONVIF if it isn't Hikvision.

Compression is H.265+, which keeps file sizes down — useful when working out how much storage your NVR hard drive will need for continuous recording.
