8 MP Smart Hybrid Light Fixed Turret Network Camera

The DS-2CD1383G2-LIUF/SL is an 8 MP turret camera built for buyers who want clear detail and sensible night-time coverage without fiddly setup.

What it actually does

Resolution is 8 MP, so footage holds up when you zoom in on faces or number plates. Human and vehicle detection is built in — the camera aims to flag people and vehicles separately from general movement, which cuts down on false alerts from leaves, cats or passing headlights.

Night vision uses Smart Hybrid Light, a system that can switch between infrared and visible light depending on how you configure it. In practice this means you get a choice between traditional monochrome IR footage or colour footage under visible illumination at night — check your recorder supports this before you commit to a scene.

Storage and audio

There's a microSD card slot supporting up to 512 GB for onboard recording — useful as a backup if your NVR goes offline, or as your only storage if you're running the camera standalone. Built-in two-way audio (microphone and speaker) lets you listen in and speak through a compatible app or system.

Build

The housing is rated IP67, meaning it's protected against dust ingress and water immersion — a sensible spec for anything mounted outside under an eave or on a wall.

Compression

It uses H.265+ compression, which keeps file sizes and bandwidth down compared with older codecs, so your storage lasts longer before you need to overwrite footage.
