What the DS-3E0318P-E/M(B) actually does
It's a 16-port PoE switch that powers IP cameras straight from the network cable, so you don't need separate power adapters at each camera. Each of the 16 ports runs at 10/100 Mbps (Fast Ethernet — fine for standard resolution CCTV streams) and supports PoE (Power over Ethernet), sending both data and power down one cable.
Power budget — check this before you buy
Every port can output up to 30 W, but the switch has a shared total budget of around 130 W. Add up the power draw of all your cameras (check each camera's rated wattage) and keep the total under this figure, otherwise ports further down the line may not get enough power.

- 300 m PoE reach in Extend mode — useful when a camera sits well beyond the usual 100 m Ethernet limit, such as at the far end of a warehouse or perimeter fence.
