4MP sits in the sweet spot for most home and small-business CCTV: sharper than 2MP/1080p, without the storage and bandwidth demands of 8MP. This range covers PTZ (pan-tilt-zoom), turret, bullet and eyeball formats, all PoE (Power over Ethernet, meaning one cable carries power and data) unless noted otherwise.
How to choose
- Fixed view vs PTZ: turret and bullet cameras (e.g. the DS-2CD2347G2-LSU/SL range) suit a set entrance or driveway; PTZ models like the DS-2DE4425IW-DE or DS-2DE3A400BW-DE/W-F1 let you pan, tilt and zoom remotely to follow activity.
- Night vision type: ColorVu and Hybrid/Smart Hybrid Light models (several DS-2CD234xG2H-LISU/SL variants) use a built-in light source to keep colour at night; standard IR models such as the DS-2CD2H45FWD-IZS switch to black-and-white infrared instead.
