Product Description
A video balun is a small connector that lets you swap bulky coax cable for ordinary network cable on an analogue HD camera run. This one converts a BNC signal to RJ45, so you can wire your CCTV camera through Cat5e or Cat6 instead.
What it does: turns the coaxial video signal from an HD-TVI, AHD or CVI camera into a signal that travels over twisted-pair network cable, then converts it back at the other end.
Where it fits: you need two — one at the camera, one at the DVR input — plugged straight into the coax and RJ45 leads with no tools required. It's passive, meaning it draws no power of its own, so there's nothing extra to wire in or fail electrically.
Why bother
Network cable is generally cheaper and easier to run than thick coax, especially over longer distances, and many installers already have reels of Cat5e/Cat6 on hand. This balun supports resolutions up to 8MP, so it won't be the bottleneck if you're running a high-definition analogue system.
