Product Description
A video balun lets you run CCTV signal over network cable instead of coax — this pair-per-run adapter converts a BNC video signal to RJ45 so you can use Cat5e or Cat6 cable between camera and recorder.
It's passive — no external power needed, so there's nothing to fail electrically inside the unit itself. One balun sits at the camera end, one at the DVR/NVR end.
What it actually supports
- Video formats: HD-TVI, AHD, CVI and standard analog — check your camera and recorder use one of these (not IP/PoE)
- Resolution: up to 8MP (4K), so it's fine for current HD-over-coax cameras rather than just older analog ones
- Cabling: Cat5e or Cat6 UTP, useful where network cable is already run or preferred over coax
- Connections: BNC male on the camera/DVR side, RJ45 on the cable side, with gold-plated BNC contacts to help keep the connection stable
Where it fits
Useful if you're re-using structured cabling (network points already in the wall) rather than pulling new coax, or extending a run where coax alone would be impractical. Because it's a passive design, expect performance to depend on cable quality and length — it's not a substitute for a proper power/signal survey on longer runs.
