Product Description
A passive video balun lets you run HD CCTV signals over ordinary network cable instead of coax. This one is rated for up to 8MP (4K) and supports HD-TVI, AHD, HD-CVI and analog signals, so it works with most HD-over-coax camera systems already installed or being planned.
Why use one
If your building already has Cat5e or Cat6 cable run through walls and ceilings, you can use that instead of pulling new coax. The balun converts the camera's coaxial video signal to travel over the twisted-pair cable, then converts it back at the other end.
How it connects
- BNC male connector for direct connection to a camera or DVR input — check your DVR supports the resolution you're feeding it (an 8MP signal into an older DVR won't display at full quality).
- Gold-plated connector plate for a more stable contact and less signal loss at the joint.
- Passive — no power supply needed, so there's nothing extra to wire in.
- Install these in pairs: one at the camera, one at the DVR end, to complete the run.
Worth checking before you buy
- Confirm your DVR and cameras use the same format (HD-TVI, AHD or CVI) — the balun itself supports all four, but your recorder may not.
- For 8MP resolution, make sure your DVR's channel inputs are rated for it.
- Cable quality matters over longer twisted-pair runs; poor cable can affect signal stability.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does this balun need power?
No — it's a passive device, so it works without an external power supply.
What CCTV formats does it support?
It supports HD-TVI, AHD, HD-CVI and standard analog video signals, up to 8MP (4K) resolution.
Can I use this with an NVR?
No — this balun uses a BNC coaxial connector for DVR or analog camera inputs; NVRs use network (Ethernet) connections, not BNC.
Do I need two of these per camera run?
Yes, they're designed to be installed in pairs — one at the camera end and one at the DVR end — to complete the coax-to-UTP-to-coax link.
