The QVIS PSU-5A-12V-18CH powers up to five 12V DC cameras from one box. It's a 5-port distribution unit rated at 5A total output, so it splits mains power out to multiple cameras instead of running separate plug adaptors round the house.

What it does in practice

Each of the five ports feeds a camera its own 12V DC supply, drawn from a single 5A pool. That's fine for several low-power cameras (bullet or dome types with normal IR) run from one central point — a loft, cupboard, or comms cabinet — rather than each needing its own wall socket.

What to check before buying

• Add up your camera draw first. If your cameras' combined current needs exceed 5A, this unit won't cover them all — check camera ratings before committing.
• Mains input is standard 240V AC, so it plugs straight into a normal UK socket.
• Protection — it uses PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) technology instead of a traditional fuse: if a port is overloaded or short-circuits, it trips and resets automatically once the fault clears, rather than needing a fuse replaced.
• Environment — rated for 0°C to +40°C, so it's meant for indoor or sheltered installation, not an exposed outdoor wall.

A weak or overloaded supply is a common cause of cameras flickering or dropping out at night when IR LEDs draw extra current, so leaving headroom below the 5A limit is worth doing rather than running it flat out.
