Product Description
The Dahua ASR1102A(V2) is a door-entry reader that checks who you are two ways: by fingerprint or by contactless card, then sends that decision to a separate access controller.
It doesn't lock or unlock the door on its own — it's a "reader", meaning it needs to be wired via RS-485 to a compatible Dahua access controller, which is what actually drives the lock. Check you have (or are buying) that controller before ordering.
What it actually does
- Reads Mifare 13.56MHz IC cards by default. The "-D" variant (ASR1102A-D(V2)) reads ID EM cards instead — same reader, different card technology, so make sure you order the version matching the cards you'll issue.
- Stores up to 3,000 fingerprints on the device itself, so it keeps working even if it loses contact with a back-end server.
- Blue backlight and audible beep confirm each scan, useful in low light or noisy entrances.
- Watchdog function automatically recovers the device if it hangs, so a firmware glitch doesn't leave a door reader dead until someone notices.
Fitting it
It's a surface-mounted unit, fixed to a wall or door frame rather than recessed — check you have flat mounting space and a route for the RS-485 cable back to the controller.
Good for both small business entrances and residential access points where you want fingerprint verification as well as, or instead of, a card.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does this reader control the door lock by itself?
No. It's a reader that communicates via RS-485 to a separate Dahua access controller, which handles the actual lock and access logic.
What's the difference between ASR1102A(V2) and ASR1102A-D(V2)?
They're the same reader, but the standard version reads Mifare 13.56MHz IC cards while the "-D" version reads ID EM cards instead — order the one matching your existing cards.
How many fingerprints can it store?
Up to 3,000 fingerprint templates, stored on the device itself.
How is it installed?
It's designed for surface-mounted installation, fixed to a wall or frame rather than recessed.
