Product Description
This is the fixed 230V mains cable that feeds power into a CCTV installation — it's not for the camera signal itself, but for running the mains supply to PSUs, small distribution boards and other ancillary loads alongside your Cat5e/Cat6 or coax runs.
Prysmian 6242Y is a flat twin and earth cable with 1.5mm² solid copper conductors (brown line, blue neutral) plus a bare copper circuit protective conductor (CPC), all under a grey PVC sheath. It's manufactured and certified to BS6004, with conductors to BS EN 60228, and is BASEC approved — worth checking for if a spec calls for branded cable specifically.
Rated 300/500V, with a maximum operating temperature of 70°C. The flat profile (about 4.7mm high, 8.6mm wide) clips neatly to walls and joists, runs in trunking or conduit, or embeds in plaster where you need earth continuity.
Sold per metre, cut from a 100m drum, so you buy only the length a job needs rather than a full reel — useful for a single PSU feed or a short extension to an existing circuit.
Where it's typically used
- Lighting circuits and switch drops
- Small power radials
- Any 230V run needing an earth continuity conductor
Any circuit design, cable sizing or current-carrying capacity should be confirmed against BS 7671 and by a competent person — this listing covers the cable itself, not installation advice.
