A 1-metre Cat6 patch cable does one job: it links two nearby network devices with a solid, gigabit-capable wired connection. That's the length to reach from a router to a nearby switch, or from an NVR (network video recorder, the box that stores your CCTV footage) to a PoE switch sitting in the same cabinet.
Cat6 is the current common Ethernet standard, built to carry data faster and with less interference than the older Cat5e. This lead is backward-compatible, so it'll work fine on a Cat5e network too — you just won't get the full Cat6 speed benefit unless the rest of the run is Cat6 as well.
