Product Description
The Pyronix SMOKE-WE2 wireless smoke detector is made to join a compatible Pyronix alarm system, so the first thing to check is that you have one, or plan to buy one. It reports to that system's control panel by radio rather than over a cable.
How it warns you
A photoelectric (optical) sensor picks up smoke entering its sensing chamber. The detector then sounds its built-in 85dB sounder (dB means decibels, a measure of loudness) and flashes its LEDs, giving a clear warning at the detector itself.
Check before you buy
- Panel: a compatible Pyronix alarm system.
- Wireless link: encrypted, two-way, on 868MHz (MHz is megahertz, the radio frequency), so no signal cabling is needed.
- Batteries: the sensor battery has a stated life of 10 years. The radio runs from a separate, replaceable CR123A battery that lasts around two years.
- Size: circular, 120mm across and 52.45mm deep.
- Tamper protection: front and rear, so interference with the unit can be flagged.
- Extras: a test button and visual status indicators.
Keeping it maintained
Low-battery supervision sends the radio module's battery status to the control panel. That means the two-yearly CR123A change is something the system tells you about, instead of something you find out when the unit fails.
It is intended for suitable residential installations.
