How it works
An electromagnet is fed a constant current, which holds an armature plate (a separate metal plate fixed to the door) firmly against it. Cut the power — via your access control system, keypad or an emergency release button — and the field collapses, letting both doors swing free. This is standard practice for fire escape routes, since it means loss of power always defaults to unlocked.
